1022 South, The Hidden Apothecary - NYTimes.com

The Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma, Wash., is an unlikely cocktail hot spot. While the city has undergone a resurgence over the last decade, spearheaded by the Chihuly Museum of Glass and a vibrant Downtown antiques and arts district, Hilltop remains its roughest patch and largely ignored by visitors. But hidden there is 1022 South, home to some of the most fascinating apothecary cocktail work on the West Coast.

Every word of this story by Jordan Michelman is true. Many of the photos I use, tips I’ve run and all around inspiration come right from that seat just past the curve of the bar. Congratulations to the folks at 1022 South.

UPDATE 2: Chris Keil, owner/operator of 1022 South responds.

I spent one night in Tacoma this August, and this is where we ended up, by accident. It was wonderful!  I had an Aviator, and my friends who don’t drink alcohol had some of the home made mixers.
